Seider’s Red Wings defeat the leaders

Ice hockey runner-up Moritz Seider and the Detroit Red Wings remain on course for the playoffs in the NHL. The team from the US state of Michigan won the heated duel with the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 after overtime on Saturday. Seider didn’t contribute to the goal against the leaders of the Western Conference, but the defender blocked seven shots.

After just 45 seconds, Lucas Raymond took the lead for the Red Wings after a remarkable solo effort. Vancouver only got into the game in the second third, which was characterized by a lot of nickel-and-dime, and turned a 0-1 into a 3-1 in twelve minutes. But Detroit showed morale and escaped into extra time, and Seider also had to go to the penalty box shortly before the end after an altercation. After just 23 seconds in overtime, Jake Walman was ice cold with a penalty.

After 51 of 82 regular season games, Detroit is in one of the two wild card spots for the play-offs in the East. But the form is right: Seider and Co. won seven of the last ten games.

However, things are looking bad for John-Jason Peterka. Seider’s national team colleague lost with the Buffalo Sabers 1:3 against the St. Louis Blues. In the East, Buffalo is far behind the play-off places, only the Ottawa Senators with Tim Stützle and the Columbus Blues Jackets are worse.
