Seidel is sixth over 1000 m at the short track world championships

Germany’s best short tracker Anna Seidel ensured a conciliatory end to the season at the World Championships in Montreal, Canada. The 24-year-old from Dresden reached the B finals over 1000 and 1500 m. In the final ranking, it was enough for Seidel to finish sixth and tenth on Sunday.

Seidel won the B run over the 1000 m. Over 1500 m, where eight instead of five runners started in the finals, she had previously come in second. The Vice European Champion over the longer distance was third in the semi-finals on Saturday and narrowly missed out on the medal decision. The woman from Dresden was 108 thousandths of a second behind second place and less than two tenths behind first place.

On Saturday, Seidel was also eliminated in the quarter-finals over 500 as the fourth of five starters in her run. For the men, Yanghun Ben Jung also reached the quarterfinals over 500 m.

Seidel, the only German Olympic participant in 2022, had fallen over 1500 m in the preliminary run in Beijing and was later disqualified. The quick return to training cleared her head a little, said Seidel, who continues to suffer from severe pain as a result of her broken tibia and fibula in March 2021.
