See: brown fleet sailing season kicks off with traditional Pieper race

Dozens of skippers kicked off the sailing season this weekend by sailing along with the traditional Pieperrace. The race will be held for the 37th time this year to keep history alive. During the Second World War, the so-called Volendam quacks (large botters) transported potatoes from Friesland, among other things to supply the Amsterdam hospitals.
