The second-hand platform Vinted announces the closure and integration of its German competitor Rebelle.
Vinted already had one in July 2022 Takeover offer for the online platform that specializes in second-hand luxury fashion with the aim of combining both companies into one organization. After a year and a half of cooperation, Rebelle will now be gradually closed by March 18, 2024, Vinted announced on Thursday.
From February 19th, users of the digital marketplace will have the opportunity to transfer their sales items and personal data such as brand and size preferences as well as wish list items to a Vinted account. The integration of Rebelle’s second-hand offering is intended to strengthen Vinted’s luxury division, according to the statement. In order to further expand expertise in this area Rebelle founder and former CEO Cécile Wickmann will assume the position of Senior Director Luxury in the future.
“The closure of Rebelle is not the end of our incredible 10-year journey, but a new beginning. With the same enthusiasm that drove us at Rebelle, we are now embarking on an exciting new adventure at Vinted. We want to make second-hand luxury fashion more accessible, affordable and trustworthy for even more people across Europe,” said Wickmann about the takeover.
Item verification for designer products from Rebelle has already been integrated into the Vinted platform and will be gradually expanded. The service is optionally available to users for a fee.
The company founded in Lithuania in 2008 Vinted
bought the Dutch company United Wardrobe in 2020. This year, the German fashion marketplaces Kleiderkreisel and Mamikreisel, which already belong to the company, were also merged continued under the name ‘Vinted’. The platform now has around 80 million registered members in 21 markets in Europe and North America, including 14.5 million users in Germany alone.
