Status: 07/17/2022 00:10 a.m

Steeplechase runner Gesa Krause has reached the World Cup final after a long trembling. The German champion Lea Meyer crashed spectacularly. There was an exciting finish in the 10,000 m final – and a Polish double success in the hammer throw. The second day of competition at a glance.

3,000 m obstacle: Krause happy, Meyer crashes

Despite difficult preparations for the season, Gesa Krause is in the World Cup final over 3,000 m obstacle on Wednesday (07/20/2022). Until then, the 29-year-old had to tremble for a long time. In her pre-run, the two-time European champion finished seventh in 9:21.02 minutes, but finally got the last place in the final with a lead of eight hundredths of a second via the fastest time rule. “Sometimes you have to be lucky and know that it’s worth fighting to the last meter,” said Krause.

The German champion Lea Meyer fell spectacularly at the start of her run at the moat. In 9:30.81 minutes, the woman from Cologne fought her way to the finish, but clearly missed the final.

When I was down in the water and opened my eyes, I thought for a moment: So, is the backbone still whole?

Lea Meyer in the ARD interview

“I didn’t approach the hurdle aggressively enough. That was stupid and annoying,” said Meyer.

Triple jump: Eckhardt-Noack and Maduka under 14 m

In the triple jump qualification, the two German jumpers clearly missed the final of the top twelve: Neele Eckhardt-Noack (13.93 m) and Jessie Maduka (13.30 m) stayed well below the 14 m mark. To take part in the fight for the medals, 14.27 m would have been necessary.

110 m hurdles: Traber’s run “was unfortunately nothing”

In the hurdle sprint, Gregor Traber literally got “stuck”. After touching several hurdles, the native of Tübingen finished seventh in his race after 13.81 seconds – that wasn’t enough for the semifinals. “I didn’t get in well and then wanted to step on the gas. I was pretty aggressive, but unfortunately that was nothing,” said Traber on ZDF. The fastest was defending champion Grant Holladay from the USA with 13.14 seconds.

400 m hurdles: Warholm without problems

Norway’s hurdles star Karsten Warholm seems ready for the title defense project despite his thigh injury.
