Second victory in the DEL: Iserlohn Roosters – upward trend or flash in the pan?

After six defeats in a row, the Iserlohn Roosters were finally able to win their second win of the season against the Kölner Haie. On Friday it will be shown against the Augsburg Panthers whether the victory was a liberating blow or just a flash in the pan.

The relief was great in Iserlohn. They won 5:4 Iserlohn Roosters on the 8th DEL matchday the Kölner Haie ended their negative series of six bankruptcies in a row, which meant the worst start to the season in the history of the DEL in Iserlohn. After the opening win against the Augsburg Panthers, the win against Cologne was the second win of the season, through which Kurt Kleinendorst’s team also passed the Red Lantern on to the Bietigheim Steelers.

Christian Hommel, Sport Director, was particularly pleased that the Roosters finally showed the right virtues again: “We fought, won a lot of duels and gave our all in terms of running. Of course there was a lot of work. Of course there was a lot of work involved.” , he said. “But it was all about finally ending this negative run and we did it.”

Long list of defects

The list of shortcomings among the people of Iserlohn was long. It was a problem both in front and behind. The Sauerland region still has the second worst offense (18 goals) and the worst defense (33 goals conceded) in the DEL. In the final third alone, the Roosters conceded a whopping 13 goals before the Cologne game. There were also too many unnecessary penalties.

“We were happy that we were finally able to score more than two goals in a game and that we implemented many of the things we had planned for the match,” said striker John Broda to “Eishockey-News”. the game against the sharks. “In addition, the great support from the fans helped us at the decisive moments to finally save this victory over the finish line.”

Broda, who was last only intended as a backup striker, got more ice time after Yannick Proske’s injury (slight concussion) and promptly scored the goal for a 3-2 lead in the meantime. “The goal was of course a relief and at the same time a satisfaction for me,” said Broda. “With this goal I also wanted to show the coach that he can count on me.”

Storm reinforcements needed

Nevertheless, manager Hommel still wants to add personnel to the offensive. “We are on the lookout for two foreigners to join the storm. We are in intensive talks.” So far, however, Hommel has not been able to report any execution.

That’s why the Roosters still have to deal with the existing staff on Friday. Opponents are again the Augsburg Panthers at 7.30 p.m., who had already defeated the Roosters 2-1 at the start of the season. “We have found the formula we can build on,” said coach Kleinendorst, optimistic that he had finally stopped the negative trend.

Whether that will happen or whether the win against Cologne was just a flash in the pan will be seen on Friday.
