Second dead fisherman found during a search on the Volkerak

The body of a second fisherman who drowned on Tuesday evening on the Volkerak in the Dinteloord has been found. Divers brought the body to the surface and brought it to the side, the police reported on Wednesday afternoon. The search is still underway for one of the fishermen. The police assume that the person has also died.

The police have been working on the salvage operation since Tuesday evening, after a fishing boat capsized on the Volkerak. There were four German men in the boat. One of them was pulled out of the water alive. The three other men went missing. The police already assumed on Tuesday evening that they had drowned.

A body was found Tuesday evening. Police found the second body on Wednesday afternoon. One body is now still missing.

In shock
The man who survived the accident was able to be pulled out of the water alive, partly thanks to a skipper. “He was checked and was physically fine,” a police spokesperson said. “That man was in a lot of shock yesterday and was unable to speak properly. He is now staying in a hotel and has been offered psychological help.”

It is still unclear how the accident could happen. The boat is also needed to investigate this. The police are still looking for that. “We have one survivor and witnesses on the water. We still have to question them to find out what happened,” the spokesperson said.
