Marius Gersbeck had to answer in court because of a physical altercation during the training camp, now Hertha’s goalkeeper has a new chance.
The suspended goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck receives money from his football club Hertha BSC a new chance. As the club announced on Monday afternoon, the suspension imposed due to a beating in the Austrian training camp will be lifted.
The 28-year-old will return to team training during the international break and will train again with head coach Pal Dardai’s professional squad.
Last week, the proceedings against the Hertha keeper were a good two months after the night-time incident at the Berlin training camp before the Salzburg Regional Court after paying a fine. He is not considered to have a criminal record.

Herrich: “Strictness behaviour rules in public and private life”
“Since the proceedings against Marius Gersbeck were dropped, it has been clear that there will be no criminal conviction. Marius has also shown insight and remorse towards us as a club,” managing director Thomas E. Herrich is quoted as saying in the statement.
Despite the pardon, Hertha issued the keeper a warning and a “heavy fine,” as Herrich’s statement shows. The club statement also states: “From now on, strict rules of conduct in public and private life will apply to our goalkeeper and he will be severely sanctioned.”
As possible Identification figure came from Karlsruhe
Gersbeck had confessed in court that he had injured a 22-year-old in a nighttime brawl on the sidelines of the Hertha training camp in July. The proceedings ended last week as part of a so-called diversion. The victim accepted Gersbeck’s apology and the criminal proceedings were dropped without a verdict – in exchange for a payment of 40,000 euros. The Hertha goalkeeper also avoids a criminal conviction.

Hertha BSC were shown their limits in the 1-2 defeat by FC St. Pauli. The decisive factors for the failure were an overpowering opponent, but also our own tactical deficits. But the blue and whites shouldn’t panic too much. By Marc Schwitzkymore
Gersbeck, who was born in Berlin, returned to his youth club from Karlsruher SC this summer. Because of his close contacts in the fan scene, he is considered a possible identification figure for the so-called Berlin Way, with which the Bundesliga relegated team wants to get out of the sporting and economic crisis.
Gersbeck: “I’m not a bad person”
“I’m not a bad person and, above all, I’m not the unreflective, beating goalkeeper who doesn’t care about those around him or those around him,” said Gersbeck. The 28-year-old announced that he would speak to the fans personally at the Berliner general meeting in mid-October. He is aware that he has made a huge mistake.
