The full-fledged league crisis could apparently claim more than just one prominent victim at BVB. According to consistent reports, not only coach Edin Terzic, but also sports director Sebastian Kehl has to worry about his job with the black and yellow team.
It is not yet clear what will happen at BVB after the winter break. The big crisis summit with everyone involved will not take place until the end of the week. It cannot be ruled out that the decision will be made there to release coach Edin Terzic from his duties.
As the “kicker” and the “Ruhr Nachrichten” report, among others, sports director Sebastian Kehl could also be in trouble after the meeting. It is still “uncertain” whether he will not also fall victim to the sporting crisis, reports the Dortmunder Zeitung, which is close to the club. The “kicker” also speaks of an “open” future for the former professional in his current position and writes that his job is also “threatened”.
Is the BVB squad put together incorrectly?
Kehl is primarily blamed for the composition of the squad, which obviously has some deficits, although overall it was quite expensive. This summer alone, the runner-up spent over 60 million euros on new additions, and the year before they invested over 100 million euros in the squad.
Nevertheless, there is still a lack of players who can perform well even on bad days, inspire others and thus secure points that are urgently needed in the fight for Champions League qualification.
As of today, Kehl’s dismissal is considered somewhat less likely than a separation from Terzic. The main reason for this is the upcoming winter transfer window, which has always been considered complicated and will demand a lot from Dortmund this year. BVB probably cannot and will not risk entering the market without a well-connected sports director. It remains to be seen whether that will be enough for Kehl to keep his job.
