Seattle Seahawks lose defensive star Uchenna Nwosu for the rest of the season

Bad news for the Seattle Seahawks: Their best edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu is expected to miss the rest of the season with a pectoral muscle injury.

According to a report by ESPN, Nwosu will undergo surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle. Head coach Pete Carroll had previously indicated this on Monday: “He has a pectoral muscle injury that will likely require surgery. That’s what we’ve heard so far.”

Nwosu came to Seattle from the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022 on a two-year, $19.055 million contract, where he recorded 9.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss and 61 pressures, all of which were career highs for the outside linebacker. Last summer he signed with the Seahawks for three more years and more than $53 million.

In the current season, however, he had not yet returned to his level of last year until his injury in the second quarter of the game against the Arizona Cardinals (20:10). In the six games so far he has only had 15 pressures and two sacks. He also missed 26 percent of his tackles according to PFF.

Seahawks will miss Nwosu

Without Nwosu, the Seahawks will now have to rely more on Boye Mafe, Darrell Taylor and rookie Derick Hall when it comes to pass rush. “We now have to count on our rotation. We have had a rotation going all along and we will continue it,” explained Carroll, who admitted that Nwosu’s absence will be a challenge for the defensive staff.

“Chenna is a fantastic football player and a great team member. He’s such a tough guy, such a smart player, so consistent. He plays really physical and always sends the right message. We’ll miss him.”
