The NFL season is over for quarterback Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns.
The 26-year-old will have an operation on his left shoulder and will therefore be absent from the insignificant season finale against Cincinnati Bengals.
Mayfield, who has played with a torn labrum and fracture in his non-limb for most of the season, was sagged nine times in the 14:26 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.
Afterward, he said he would consider retiring from playing against AFC North Champion Bengals.
This has now been confirmed by coach Kevin Stefanski. “It’s obviously frustrating for him, but we think this is the best thing for him at the moment,” said Stefanski.
Mayfield had not played a good season because of the injury. The Browns had nothing to do with the playoffs anyway.
