Is that bitter! Midfielder Andras Schäfer (24) injured his left metatarsal for the third time since November.
It had already broken twice, now the Hungarian suffered the next brutal setback.
Against Freiburg (4: 2) his comeback attempt ended again shortly after the recovery, which was acclaimed by the fans. In January it happened in the second game, now in the third after the return.
The end of the season for shepherds! Union must secure the Champions League without the big unlucky man.
Coach Urs Fischer (57): “It’s a shame for Andras. I’m sorry. Football can be like that sometimes. His last performances did us good.”
There was no sign of injury when he was substituted. But he had already taken a hit in the first half that was painful. After the game, Schäfer hobbled to his car.
Now he has to fight his way back up for the third time. Fischer: “It’s not easy at the moment, but the whole club is behind him.”
