The DFB is applying with three Bundesliga stadiums to host three European Cup finals in 2026 and 2027.
Following a decision by the Presidium last year, the German Football Association said it submitted its application documents to UEFA in Nyon on Wednesday.
Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Leipzig
The association is entering the race for the finals of the Europa League in 2026 and 2027 with the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt and for the finals of the Conference League in both years with the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. Eintracht Frankfurt became the first German club to win the Europa League in 2022.
The DFB also hopes to host the women’s Champions League final in 2026 or 2027 at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart. All three candidate stadiums will be venues for the men’s European Championship this summer. UEFA’s decision will be made this May.
“Offer the best Requirements”
“Our stadiums, which have been modernized again for the Euros, offer the best conditions for high-class finals”said DFB General Secretary Heike Ullrich in a statement.
Last year, the DFB also provisionally reported the European Championship stadiums in Munich, Düsseldorf and Gelsenkirchen as venues for the UEFA finals. However, as requested by the European Football Association in its advertisements, they had to commit to one applicant per competition. As a result, Munich, Düsseldorf and Gelsenkirchen withdrew their interest.
