On Thursday, July 15, 2021, a painting was stolen from the gallery of artist David De Graef in the center of Bruges. The gallery is located on the Bonifacius Bridge, close to the Groeninge Museum. The suspects were filmed by the surveillance cameras. The images show how around 4.10 pm two men walk across the Arentshof to the Bonifacius Bridge, where the gallery is located. One of the suspects is bald and appears to be speaking with busy gestures. The second suspect is wearing a blue cap. They enter the gallery and two minutes later they are already outside with a bag containing the painting with the name “Contact”. It is 1 meter wide and 70 cm high and costs 2400 euros. The painting shows a pregnant woman and is made with the airbrush technique in which the paint is blown onto the canvas with air.
A few days later, another painting was stolen by presumably the same perpetrators. It concerns the painting “Confess”, also an airbrush painting with the same dimensions. This painting is also worth 2400 euros.
One suspect is bald and wore a white short-sleeved T-shirt with vertical black stripes on the sleeves, presumably Adidas. Underneath he wore dark shorts and black shoes with white soles. The man was wearing a blue cap, a dark sweater or jacket and a black backpack, presumably of the Puma brand. Underneath he had dark shorts and black shoes with white soles. After the theft, he was carrying a black and white checkered bag containing the stolen painting.
