Search in water yields no trace of Dutch Hebe (10) and supervisor Sanne (26) | Abroad

The Dutch police are still looking for 10-year-old Hebe from Vught in the Netherlands and her supervisor Sanne (26). The area around the North Brabant village of Waspik has been combed since this afternoon after indications came in that the two missing persons had been there yesterday afternoon. An oil trail was found in the water at an industrial park, after which emergency services started a search for a possible car. It was not found, so again there is no trace of the two.

Sanne and Hebe were last seen on Monday evening in Raamsdonksveer in a black Kia Picanto PR425K, Sanne’s car. This morning an amber alert was issued for Hebe. Since 2.30 pm, a specific search has been conducted around Waspik. The girl is disabled and needs care.

The police are investigating all roads and waterways on and around the route from Raamsdonksveer to Vught. “A police helicopter was also deployed, but unfortunately without result. Ultimately, the question is whether they have taken that route.”

Drones and Quads

The volunteer organization Search and Rescue Netherlands (SAR) is also looking for the girl. A spokesperson says that the volunteers are initially looking between Vught and Raamsdonksveer. “We have to act quickly. If they’ve gone off the road, there’s a small chance they’re still alive.” Volunteers search, among other things, on highways and inland roads. “We go out with quads and cars. Drones will also be flying.” The spokesperson asks people in the area to be alert.

“Amber Alert does its job”

The girl is wearing a light purple Eastpak backpack, a bright pink jacket, black skirt and a blue T-shirt, and has blond hair. Police have not released the escort’s identity. According to a police spokesman, the reason for this is that an amber alert only targets children. Moreover, the role of women is not yet clear. “That is why we are very reserved. All scenarios are still open.” However, reports from the family made it clear that the woman’s name is Sanne, she is 26 years old and has blond, medium-length hair and blue eyes.

“Dear people, a message I never thought I would have to write. Sanne and Hebe are missing,” Hebe’s mother wrote on Facebook earlier today. “They never arrived when Sanne brought Hebe home from ‘t Overstapje in Raamsdonkveer to Vught.” ‘T Overstapje is an orthopedagogical day center in Raamsdonksveer. According to Henk Smeets, Hebe’s grandfather, the family is keeping ‘radio silence’ on the advice of the police. “The Amber Alert is doing its job.”

care demand

The missing Hebe has special motor skills, the police writes: she walks shaky with her feet outside and has scoliosis. This is a condition in which the spine twists.

Due to Hebe’s complicated care needs, her parents founded the ‘HebeHuis’ in Vught in 2020 because they had nowhere else to go with their daughter. In May of this year, Hebe started at day care ‘t Overstapje in Raamsdonkveer. “We fought to get her out of isolation and to give her a place in the world,” Hebe’s mother said on Facebook.

According to Hebe’s family, Hebe and Sanne have a special bond. “The family hopes they will be found together soon,” it said in a statement. The family is also grateful for all the support. “We want nothing more than to have her back in our arms.”

Quest

A friend of Hebe’s mother says she is coordinating the search. She works together with the police. A Whatsapp group has been created in which people share, among other things, the routes they have already searched. Friends of the supervisor also help to find the two. The search is mainly on country roads between Vught and daytime activities ‘t Overstapje. People who are searching are warned not to stand in it if they see a skid mark in connection with the trace investigation.

A police spokesman says he hopes to bring the two back in good health. “In the first instance, we focus on the child, which we want to bring home safely.”
