Search for well-skilled aviation technicians at job fair
The average aircraft technician in Flanders is now 56 years old. There is an urgent need for rejuvenation and renewal. 160 students take classes on the VLOC campus, just next to Ostend airport. You can complete your secondary education there as well as follow a bachelor’s degree in aviation techniques. Koen Denys, VLOC Aviation Training Ostend: “We have students from all over Flanders. From Limburg, Antwerp, Brabant. Actually the least number of students from the province of West Flanders itself.”
And it’s angling for well-trained technicians here. Seventeen very diverse aviation companies are present at the job fair. Also the aircraft maintenance company Execujet Mro Services from Kortrijk. Christophe De Coppel, CEO Execujet Mro Services Kortrijk-Wevelgem: “We are very happy that this exists. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find good staff. We have been participating for three years. Not only do we find good people, but also keep good people is a must.”
The economy therefore plays in favor of the students. The longer they study, the more desirable they are in this job market. Sabrina Nayci, Student VLOC Ostend: “My ultimate dream is to become an F16 pilot. I plan to continue at the Ministry of Defense. I have already been able to do an internship there for three years. That was very pleasant. I see myself in that. continue.”
Defense is indeed becoming an attractive employer and educator, but all other companies in this sector also need people.
