Seal rescued in April has been released

On April 14, Bart V. found a seal completely entangled in a fishing net. Together with his colleague, he removed the net and called the Sea Life Blankenberge Seal Rescue Team. It was taken care of there all along. Bart V.: “The animal was completely caught in a fishing net. Two deep cuts in the neck and that net was constantly chafing. There really wasn’t much life left in it. I heard that it needed very urgent care afterwards. It had to be intubated when it was due at Sealife, but thanks to Sealife’s good care it has now been saved.”

Bart was so affected by the fate of the young seal that he set up a sporty crowdfunding campaign. For weeks he had his walk to work sponsored by friends and family. With that money, the care of the Sealife team in Blankenberge was sponsored. The seal is now called Zytha, like the daughter of his savior, and lives happily in the sea again since this afternoon.
