The Seattle Seahawks presented the New York Giants on a foreign pitch on Monday evening (local time). However, visiting quarterback Geno Smith couldn’t fully enjoy the 24-3 win. A decision by the referees still bothered him even after the end of the game.
In the second quarter, Giants defender Isaiah Simmons stopped Geno Smith on the sideline with a hip drop tackle. During this attack, your own body weight is pressed onto the opponent’s legs, which enormously increases the risk of injury to the tackled player.
Smith actually required treatment on his knee after the collision, but was ultimately able to continue playing after an X-ray. However, the matter was not yet over for the signal caller.
“That was a dirty play. You saw it,” Smith rumbled after the end of the game in an interview with “ESPN” reporter Lisa Salters and called for a follow-up game for Simmons. “There’s no place for that in this sport. Hopefully something happens.”
As the conversation continued, the 32-year-old practically talked himself into a rage. “I don’t respect things like that, you know what I mean? There’s no reason for things like that. It’s a hard-fought game out there. We’re all fighting. But there’s no need to attack running guys on the sidelines,” he said Smith in mind.
NFL: Isaiah Simmons blames Geno Smith
Simmons, meanwhile, defended his actions after the game and naturally came to a very different conclusion than Smith.
“We play football. He’s angry because he got hit? What do most quarterbacks do when they don’t want to get hit? They go down,” the safety ultimately blamed the Seahawks’ quarterback for the collision.
Furthermore, he did not want any intention to cause injury to be assumed. “No one is out there trying to hurt anyone. I want everyone to be okay. None of this was intentional. We’re just trying to play hard and win,” Simmons concluded.
