Sea-Watch rescues more than 200 migrants in Mediterranean Sea in 24 hours | Abroad

In Friday’s rescue operations, 99 migrants were hoisted from an inflatable dinghy aboard the rescue vessel Sea-Watch 3, the organization reports on Twitter. Another 49 people on board were also rescued from a wooden boat.

On Thursday, 25 and 49 people were also rescued in two operations. That brings the total number of rescued migrants to 222. According to Sea-Watch, the four rescue operations took place within 24 hours.

At least 680 migrants have died or gone missing this year trying to reach Europe via the Central Mediterranean route, according to the United Nations.
