Sea Life Blankenberge releases four seals

The animals were temporarily taken care of at the Sea Life seal sanctuary and are now strong enough to live in the wild again.

On the beach of Blankenberge, seals Koko, Viktor, Michelle and Shanna were released together. Seal Koko was rescued at the beginning of this year in Westende and was very weak at that time. The Sea Life team found that the animal had an abscess. Seal Viktor was found in Koksijde in February and had an infection. He quickly recovered from that. Shortly afterwards, seal Michelle was also brought to the fire brigade in Koksijde.

Sea Life caretakers found seal Shanna in Zeebrugge in March. The animal was aggressive but exhausted and ran a fever. The caretakers estimate her age at seven months. The animal also had an inflamed eye and small wounds all over its body. After their stay at the seal sanctuary, all four seals have recovered sufficiently and were released into the sea. At the moment there are still four seals in the rescue center in Blankenberge.
