In an emotional video, Scottish Prime Minister Humza Yousaf’s mother-in-law, who is stuck in the Gaza Strip, has asked for international help.

“We have no electricity, we have no water,” said Elizabeth El-Nakla, as the Times newspaper reported on Wednesday evening. “The little food we have will not be enough because there is no electricity, and it will spoil,” El-Nakla said. “I ask the world to help the Palestinians.” She is in the house with four young grandchildren, including a two-month-old baby.

Elizabeth and Maged El-Nakla, the parents of Yousaf’s wife Nadia El-Nakla, traveled to the Gaza Strip to visit relatives last week before the Islamist Hamas terrorist attack on Israel.

Because of the Israeli blockade of the area, they are now stuck in the town of Deir al-Balah with Maged El-Nakla’s sick mother and her family. The US government is in talks with Israel and Egypt about opening a border crossing for civilians to leave the Gaza Strip.

Yousaf’s wife told the BBC her mother had not slept since Monday. “They are just afraid, absolutely afraid of what is to come and what is happening as we speak,” Nadia El-Nakla said.

“It makes me completely afraid that I will never see her again.” Since the Israeli air strikes began, her aunt and cousin’s houses have been destroyed.
