Scottish government apologizes for medieval ‘witchcraft law’ that killed thousands of women

Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon has officially apologized on behalf of the Scottish government for the thousands of women executed under the former ‘witchcraft law’ in the 16th century. More than 2,500 Scottish women who were accused of being witches died during that period. According to Sturgeon, deep misogyny was at the root of the “colossal injustice” at the time, and women are still too often treated unequally today.
