Nicola Sturgeon assures that they want to carry out an independence referendum

They compare themselves to their role model: the countries of Scandinavia

Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeonhas unveiled his plans to hold a new independence referendum, comparing Scotland to other European countries and claiming that by moving closer to Europe, Scotland would be fairer, richer and happier than it is in the UK.

“After everything that’s happened, Brexit, COVID, Boris Johnson, it’s time to set out a different and better vision,” Sturgeon told reporters at Bute House, his official residence in Edinburgh. “Are we still tied to a UK economic model that relegates us to relatively poor economic and social performance that likely to get worse, not better, outside the European Union? Or do we look up with hope and optimism and draw inspiration from comparable countries across Europe?” the Prime Minister asked in a statement collected by the Euronews medium.

The country compares itself with the Scandinavian countries and with Ireland to explain that they are the countries they want to imitate, thus distancing themselves from a United Kingdom that they consider to have policies that make no sense.

Thus, Sturgeon has ensured that the new independence referendum would have to fall within the legality set by the government of Boris Johnson, something that it is not clear that they are going to allow.
