Scorpio travels with holidaymaker’s suitcase from Croatia

A woman who had just returned from a holiday in Croatia was shocked to discover a large, poisonous scorpion among her dirty laundry and a half-empty bottle of sunscreen. The animal had crawled into her suitcase and traveled on the plane to the Netherlands.

The woman caught the scorpion and brought it to De Maashorst reception center in Schaijk. “It’s about the Euscorpius Croaticus”, they know at De Maashorst.

“Yes, it is poisonous, but absolutely not fatal to humans,” the shelter said. “The sting of this scorpion can be compared to a wasp sting.”

Quarantine
The scorpion will remain in quarantine in Schaijk for a while and will then be transferred to a reptile shelter.

It happens more often that scorpions are found in suitcases after a vacation. A traveler from Amsterdam once came home from Miami to find a scorpion that was traveling from America. And a family from Zoetermeer the same happened when they returned from a trip to Croatia.
