Scoring Davy Klaassen draws with Orange against Poland in Nations League

The Dutch national team failed to beat Poland tonight. After trailing 2-0, De Kuip drew 2-2. Born Hilversummer Davy Klaassen made the connecting goal.

With Ajax players Klaassen, Daley Blind, Steven Berghuis and Jurriën Timber, the team of national coach Louis van Gaal started the home game against Poland. After victories over Belgium and Wales, the Orange had started the group stage of the Nations League excellently.

Klaassen important

At halftime it was 0-1 in Rotterdam thanks to a goal by Matty Cash. At the start of the second half, the deficit widened when Piotr Zielinski simply tapped in. The Netherlands then quickly showed resilience by scoring twice within five minutes. Klaassen first tapped in on a pass from Memphis Depay and moments later Denzel Dumfries hit: 2-2.

Just before time, the Dutch national team seemed to be able to pull the victory out of the fire. The VAR had seen hands in the penalty area, after which Depay was allowed to take a penalty in the 91st minute. His effort hit the post hard.

One more time this season

On Tuesday, the Orange squad will close this period with a home game against Wales. That game also counts for the Nations League. After three games, the Netherlands is at the top with a three-point lead over Belgium and Poland.

Orange line-up: Fleks, Timber (Teze/64), De Vrij, Aké; Dumfries, Berghuis (Koopmeiners/65), Klaassen (Gakpo/65), De Jong, Blind; Bergwijn (Weghorst/77), Depay
