Scooter rider hit by bus in Aalsmeer, injured and taken to hospital

A scooter rider was injured this afternoon around half past two in a collision with a scheduled bus. The victim was hit by the bus at or just after the intersection of Burgemeester Kasteleinweg and Legmeerdijk. Due to the accident, buses are temporarily not using the bus lane.

Photos show part of the bus’s windshield shattered. The bus was on its way to Haarlem at that time. The scooter was also severely damaged. This ended up in the bus lane after the collision, but was most likely hit by the bus at the crossing at the intersection.

It is unknown who should have given priority. The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. The scooter rider was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

Two weeks ago, an accident involving a scheduled bus occurred at the same intersection. He then crashed into a police training car. The training car should have given priority.

Accidents regularly occur on the Burgemeester Kasteleinweg (N196). These usually take place on ‘complicated roundabouts’. Motorists especially have difficulty with the bus lane that runs through the middle of four of the five roundabouts. A bus lane also runs across the intersection with the Legmeerdijk.
