An accident involving a scooter and van occurred on Visserijweg around noon this afternoon. The driver of the scooter, a 59-year-old man from the municipality of Edam-Volendam, died in hospital from his injuries.
A police spokesperson could not say anything this afternoon about the cause of the accident. “The traffic accident analysis is currently conducting an investigation,” she said. A witness said that the impact caused the driver to fall about 25 meters away. “A trauma helicopter and two ambulances arrived at the scene and the man was rushed to hospital.” The man died there from his injuries
The driver of the van was not injured. He has now been interviewed by the police, and his role in the accident is still being investigated further.
