Casper Ruud has reached the final of a masters tournament for the first time. In Miami, the 23-year-old Norwegian defeated the equally old Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo in two sets in the semifinals: 6-4 6-1.

Ruud is placed sixth in Miami. He reached the semifinals by beating second-seeded German Alexander Zverev. In the match against Cerundolo, the number 103 in the world ranking, Ruud had two breaks, one more than his opponent in the first set, good for 6-4.

In the second set, the Norwegian number 8 in the world ranking won the save of his opponent at 1-2. He then also took the three games after that. After 1 hour and 34 minutes he had the victory.

The other semifinal in Miami will be between Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz and Spanish teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz. That match is scheduled for 1:00 a.m. (Dutch time) next night.
