It is impossible to say that canned vegetables cause cancer, although a link can be found. This was stated to RBC by a therapist, nutritionist Nadezhda Chernyshova, commenting on the conclusions of scientists from the World Cancer Research Foundation on the risks of developing cancer when eating canned vegetables.
“There may be a dependence, that is, there may be a correlation, but it’s not a fact that these are causal relationships. In this kind of research, it is absolutely impossible to draw any far-reaching conclusions, because this is a very multifactorial thing, ”Chernyshova believes.
Oncologist of the Ministry of Health denied the connection of COVID-19 with lung cancer
The specialist suggested that study participants who ate canned vegetables may also have been exposed to another carcinogen or have a hereditary predisposition to cancer.
At the same time, the doctor said that scientists had previously identified an era before refrigerators and after. Until there were refrigerators, people mostly ate corned beef or smoked meat, which led to frequent stomach cancer. “And then scientists noticed that as soon as refrigerators became a mass phenomenon in every family, stomach cancer greatly subsided. That is, there may be a connection, ”Chernyshova added.
