Schrötter missed the podium at the home race

Motorbike pilot Marcel Schrötter missed the podium at his home race at the Sachsenring.

The 29-year-old from Vilgertshofen took fourth place in the Moto2 class at the German Grand Prix in midsummer temperatures and is still waiting for his first top 3 result of the season. Victory went to the superior Spaniard Augusto Fernandez ahead of his compatriot Pedro Acosta and Sam Lowes (Great Britain).

“It will be a long race,” Schrötter said in view of the 34 degrees Celsius before the start on “Servus TV”. The local hero, who was third three years ago in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, got off to a dream start after his best qualifying session of the year (5th) and was in second place before the first corner.

After Schrötter had to let Fernandez pass, he lost two more places after a mistake at the end of the seventh lap, but quickly worked his way back up to fourth place. On the penultimate lap, the German Intact GP rider passed Lowes and was briefly third, but the Brit was able to respond.

Due to the strong performance in Saxony, the only German World Championship fixed starter Schrötter got the sixth top five result in the tenth race of the season. In the drivers’ standings, the Bavarian still occupies seventh place with 88 points.
