Björn Borg talks about his trauma in Acute on TV1.
Over
Vaasa police Bjorn Borg went to the scene when a shooter opened fire at an educational institution located in Kauhajoki on a September Tuesday in 2008. He was commanded to enter the school building with the action team to check the locked classes. At that time, the perpetrator had not yet been located, so Borg and his group had to prepare for an aggressive encounter behind every door.
In the end, however, the author was confronted by another group. After that, Borg participated in the documentation of the killing site. Everything basically went well.
– I saw all the victims. That sight is still in the retina, says Borg, a reporter at Akuuti Tero Kyllönen.
Immediately after the school killings, Borg did feel sadness and sympathy for the families of the victims, but did not feel that he himself was in a particularly bad situation. Then, after two years, the Borg collapsed completely. He participated in a post-trauma workshop for police officers, where one text message also came up.
– The most painful part was when I took my cell phone out of my pocket when the whole task was over. One person had sent me a message saying “I guess everything is ok?”. This person knew where I was. I cried like a little child. It broke me, Borg recalls.
– Someone was worried about me. It caused a reaction.
In addition to Björn Borg, other rescuers also talk about the traumas that have arisen when the work gets under the skin.
