showbizJosephine Tewson, the nervous neighbor of Hyacinth Bucket from the ‘Schone Schijn’ series, has passed away. The news of her death was confirmed by her spokesperson. She turned 91.
The British actress became known for her role as Miss Davenport in ‘Last Of The Summer Wine’ and her role as Elizabeth Warden in ‘Keeping Up Appearances’, known to us as ‘Clean Appearance’. In the latter, Tewson played the part of Elizabeth, Hyacinth Bucket’s nervous neighbor. The actress starred in almost every episode of the series from 1990 to 1995. The actress was about 60 years old when she first appeared in the series.
Carol Challis, the wife of the late actor John Challis, responded to the news on Twitter. “John loved working with her on ‘Last of the Summer Wine’.” In addition, Debbie Arnold, who could be seen in ‘EastEnders’ in the past, also made himself heard. “Terrible that we lost two wonderful people, first Bruce Montague and now – two days later – Josephine Tewson.” She continues: “We had so much fun. I loved Jo.”
Tewson died Thursday evening at Denville Hall, a well-known residential care center for actors in London. In addition to Josephine Tewson, several other actors from the series have also died. Clive Swift, who played Richard, passed away in February 2019. Just over a decade ago, in July 2012, the world had to say goodbye to Geoffrey Hughes. He played the role of Onslow in ‘Schone Schijn’. Irene Marry Wetton, who played Rose in the series, also died a few years ago. She died on November 10, 1998.
