Bicycle shop Scholten Cycling became the victim of a burglary last night. The loot consists mainly of racing bikes, according to owner Jeffrey Veltink from ‘the higher segment’. It is not the first time that the bicycle shop has had unwanted visitors.
In 2016, fifty racing and mountain bikes were seized, with a value of up to 7,000 euros. “That was huge, but the numbers are not that high now,” says Veltink. Nevertheless, he is very disappointed with the break-in. “The store feels like our home, it makes you incredibly powerless and terribly angry.”
After the alarm went off in the store, Veltink rushed to ‘his’ store as quickly as possible. He got there before the police arrived. There were still all kinds of valuable two-wheelers on the site. “Probably the thieves didn’t take it anymore in their haste.”
Despite this setback, Scholten Cycling does not give up. “We keep doing our thing and sharing our passion, this doesn’t stop us. It doesn’t make sense to dwell on it any longer. Fortunately, we get a lot of support from customers and other entrepreneurs in Dalen, especially in these bad times.”
It is not known how many perpetrators are involved in the theft. The police say they may have fled via the Emmerweg or the N34.
