For most teams in the Liqui Moly Handball Bundesliga, only one or two games have passed and the newly introduced video proof is already the topic of conversation. This also applies to the game between TBV Stuttgart and Füchse Berlin (29:30) on Friday evening.
Dyn expert Andy Schmid (40) states that in all games in which the video evidence was used “there have always been red cards.” In the 39th minute, Stuttgart’s Samuel Röthlisberger and Mijalo Marsenic came together again the referees go to the VAR table, but this time they decide to just keep playing.
Schmid, who was the Rhein-Neckar Löwen’s playmaker for 12 years, reveals on the dyno: “I think the video evidence is good. It enriches our sport and ensures more fairness. Because a contentious scene can decide about championships and titles.”
And he follows up: “It doesn’t go far enough for me. I am in favor of introducing a coach challenge. For example, every coach can demand that once per game and if he was wrong and there was no disadvantage, you could even think about a penalty. That only makes our sport even more interesting.”
