Schmid and Long write German golf history

After historically good interim results, three German golf pros are playing for victory in the final round of the US tour tournament in Nicholasville.

As the leader, Matthias Schmid from Herzogenaurach has the best chance of success, but only two strokes behind, Hurly Long (St. Leon-Rot), second-placed Olympic participant, can still have hopes. Even Yannick Paul, in ninth place, five strokes behind Schmid, is not completely without a chance.

Two German players at the top of the leaderboard before the last round of a US tour tournament meant a novelty in the history of the tour in Kentucky after the third round ended on Sunday morning due to storm and rain. A German trio had also not been in the top 10 of a PGA Tour tournament after the first three rounds.

However, Schmid and Long did not go unchallenged on the fourth round on the par 72 course: Only one shot behind the Tokyo starter, the Americans Kevin Streelman and Trey Mullinax were among the contenders.

Ten months ago, Schmid celebrated the greatest success of his professional career to date by coming in second at the Durch Open. In addition, the Franconian has another top 10 result as his best result of the current season with third place at the European Tour tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa. Long celebrated his best result of the season to date by finishing second in Kenya last March.
