Nico Schlotterbeck will most likely leave SC Freiburg after the end of the current season. According to a report, the new German international definitely wants to join BVB. FC Bayern, on the other hand, should not play a role in the considerations.
A few weeks before the end of the season, SC Freiburg is no longer really assuming that Nico Schlotterbeck will stay in the long term. Sports director Klemens Hartenbach told “Sky” that the chances of another season with the central defender were “relatively low”. The 57-year-old followed up: “It’s not unlikely that he won’t be here next year.”
The 22-year-old’s working paper runs until 2023 in Breisgau, so the club could still generate a transfer fee in line with the market in the summer.
According to the TV broadcaster, a change to Borussia Dortmund is becoming more and more apparent. Central defender colleague Niklas Süle, who is leaving FC Bayern on a free transfer, is already moving there for the new season.
Was Schlotterbeck already at BVB?
However, Freiburg and BVB should still be a bit apart in terms of transfer fee. Freiburg demanded 25 million euros for Schlotterbeck, but Borussia did not want to pay more than 20 million euros.
Meanwhile, according to “Sky”, the black and yellow are the first choice for the left foot. FC Bayern, which is also being traded in view of the upcoming Süle farewell, is currently not an issue. Schlotterbeck is said to have already been to Dortmund to get a more accurate picture of the Ruhrpottklub.
Nico Schlotterbeck came to SC Freiburg from Karlsruher SC in 2017 as an U19 player. In the 2020/21 season he was loaned to 1. FC Union Berlin, after his return he fought for a regular place in the team of coach Christian Streich. He started 26 games this season, scoring four goals.
