Schiphol limits night flights and draws a line through extra runway | Abroad

The plan for a second ‘Kaagbaan’ had been on the table for years, but has now been definitively abandoned, writes the Dutch newspaper NRC. The airport’s interim CEO, Ruud Sondag, had previously stated in the newspaper AD that the airport will be closed to departing aircraft between midnight and 6 am, and no planes will land until 5 am. However, it would take until the end of 2025 for this measure to take effect.

“The toll of what we are doing now has become too great,” says Sondag in an explanation in NRC. “This is the way forward to a quieter, clean and better aviation. Space at and around Schiphol is scarce, we have to make choices.”
