Schiphol lawsuit closer thanks to Aalsmeer election results

Residents’ group Right to Protection against Aircraft Nuisance (RBV) from Aalsmeer can probably count on financial support from the municipality for a lawsuit against aircraft noise from Schiphol. Until last week’s elections, there was no majority in the city council to help RBV. Opponents of the support have been in the minority since Wednesday.

In 2020, the VVD and the CDA in Aalsmeer voted against a motion submitted by GroenLinks to financially and legally support residents’ group RBV for a lawsuit against the state. RBV wants to let the Minister of Infrastructure go through a judge sum to ‘drasically reduce’ the noise from Schiphol. VVD and CDA together had a majority, which allowed RBV to whistle for the support of the municipality. The rest of the council was in favor of the motion.

The leader of GroenLinks in Aalsmeer, Ronald Fransen, informs NH Nieuws that he will present the initiative again to the new city council, now that VVD and CDA no longer form a majority. “The financial and legal support to residents’ group RBV will even be part of our commitment during the coalition negotiations,” said Fransen.

Nothing to bring in

Fransen wants an end to the ‘rightlessness’ of residents living near Schiphol. According to the council member, the residents have nothing to contribute as long as the airport continues to focus on increasing the number of flights with the support of the cabinet.
