Schiphol cancels neighbor days due to chaos, new measures ‘within a few days’

The neighbor days at Schiphol that were to be held this weekend are cancelled. Schiphol had invited 4,000 local residents for Saturday and Sunday, who would then receive demonstrations from, among others, the fire brigade, snow fleet and the bird control of the airport. Schiphol is currently too busy devising measures to prevent even more chaos in the terminal.

The departure halls at Schiphol have again regularly bulged over the past week and a half, after a few weeks of relative calm. Travelers are again queuing for hours for security checks and in many cases also miss their flight. Last Monday was a new low.

The airport is not getting the staff shortage at security in order. According to ex-security guards and the unions, many employees even seen it because of the poor schedules and working conditions.

With pitch and feathers towards the exit

Minister Harbers of Infrastructure and Water Management demands an action plan from Schiphol in the short term. The VVD in the House of Representatives again wants text and explanation from director Dick Benschop, who was called to the fore in The Hague just before the summer. Party chairman Van Haga of BVNL prefers to see Benschop be accompanied towards the exit with ‘tar and feathers’.

New measures within a few days

A Schiphol spokesperson informed NH Nieuws that the neighbor days at Schiphol that would be held this weekend for the first time since corona can no longer take place. Many staff are involved in the organization, but everyone is now needed for the preparations to prevent further chaos in the departure and arrival halls. Schiphol expects to be able to report more news about this within a few days.
