Schindler misses a surprise win against van Gerwen

Darts professional Martin Schindler just missed a surprise success on the PDC tour.

In the final of the Players Championships in Niedernhausen, Hesse, the 25-year-old lost 4:8 to three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen. Schindler was the third German in a Pro Tour final, after Max Hopp and Gabriel Clemens.

In the semi-finals he defeated two-time world champion Adrian Lewis 7-2. Schindler received 8,000 pounds (approx. 9,600 euros) for second place.

So far the only German winner on the PDC Tour is Hopp, who won the German Open and a tournament of the Players Championships series in 2018. Clemens lost all four of his finals.
