Pal Dardai has heavily criticized his club’s transfer policy in recent years. However, he does not want to publicly speculate about his own future as a Hertha coach in the Bundesliga final sprint.
“I think the leadership and my wife have to decide that,” said Dardai during the Berlin training session on Monday. The 47-year-old stepped in as head coach for the third time in mid-April to prevent relegation to the second division.
Two games before the end of the season, the chances of a sporting rescue are only minimal. During his comeback, Dardai noted that he actually wanted to return as head of the youth academy in the coming season.
Dardai is massively dissatisfied with the personnel policy after his first coaching period until 2019. “Hertha BSC can’t afford it, they need players who want to develop,” said Dardai. The club needs players with “development potential” and not professionals who are “satisfied with their lives, with their cars and chic imicki. You need players with will and determination,” said Hertha’s record player.
That was once different in his responsibility, said Dardai and named Mitchell Weiser, Valentino Lazaro, Davie Selke or Niklas Stark, who once played under him.
Hertha are running out of players
Hertha started the current training week with personnel concerns. In Marc Oliver Kempf (bruised ribs), Filip Uremovic (concussion), Agustin Rogel (personal reasons) and Marton Dardai (muscular problems), four central defenders were absent from the first practice session. At least Rogel and Dardai should return to training in a timely manner, as should offensive man Stevan Jovetic, who, like striker Wilfried Kanga (both muscular problems), was also unable to train on Monday.
Hertha must win their two remaining games against VfL Bochum on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) and VfL Wolfsburg a week later to still have a chance of remaining in the league. In addition, economic license requirements of the German Football League must be met by June 7th.
