Scheffler is the new number one in the golf world rankings, tournament victory in Austin – Golf

Professional golfer Scottie Scheffler has taken the lead in the world rankings for the first time in his career. The 25-year-old American won that Match Play Championship in Austin in the final against Kevin Kisner.

Due to the success in the US state of Texas, Scheffler replaced the Spaniard Jon Rahm as number one in the world. “In my dreams I never really got that far” he said, tears in his eyes after the victory. “I love to play golf. I love to measure myself. I’m happy to be here.”

In top form for weeks

According to the AP news agency, Scheffler is the sixth youngest player to be number one in the world since the ranking was introduced in 1986. Scheffler said he was happy about the success in the presence of friends and family. “I don’t feel like the world number one. I feel like the guy four months ago and I hope that doesn’t change.”

Rahm had lost his duel with Brooks Koepka in the fourth round. In the PGA tournament, it is not the total number of shots over four days that counts for victory, but success in the final knockout duels. Only the 64 best golfers in the world participate.

Last year Scheffler lost the final in Texas. He’s been in great shape for weeks now. “I don’t know if anyone plays golf better than him”said the defeated Kisner. Scheffler recently had that too Phoenix Open and the Arnold Palmer Invitational won.
