Injury to the ankle joint
Assan Ouédraogo from FC Schalke 04 is no longer available for the German U17 national team at the World Cup in Indonesia. As his club announced on Thursday evening, the 17-year-old midfielder sustained an ankle injury during the 3-1 win against New Zealand in Bandung on Wednesday.
Ouédraogo was substituted in the game shortly before half-time after a foul. Since the pain continued a day later, those responsible at the DFB in Jakarta decided to take an image in the hospital. “This showed that the injury was more severe than initially diagnosed and that it was passed on to Schalke,” said the statement from the second division club from Gelsenkirchen. After Ouédraogo returns, further examinations will be carried out by a team doctor.
The German juniors have already qualified early for the round of 16. On Saturday they play against Venezuela in the group stage. With a market value of 6 million euros, Ouédraogo is the most valuable player in the DFB junior squad and the entire tournament.
