Came from Rapid Vienna in the summer
The football year is over for central defender Leo Greiml from Schalke 04. The 21-year-old will have meniscus surgery on Friday, the Royal Blues announced. The Austrian came to Gelsenkirchen on a free transfer from Rapid Vienna in the summer and has played four games in the Bundesliga since then. He was also used four times in the Regionalliga West.
“We are very sorry for Leo,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “He fought back impressively after his cruciate ligament injury. This fighting attitude will now help him to get back on the pitch healthy and as quickly as possible.” Including Greiml, Schalke’s fourth central defender is now injured. Besides him, Marcin Kaminski (cut on the calf), Ibrahima Cissé (muscle injury) and Sepp van den Berg (ligament injury) will also be out of action until the end of the year. This leaves only Maya Yoshida as a trained central defensive man.
Of the #S04 must do without Leo Greiml until the end of the calendar year. The central defender will be operated on tomorrow, Friday, for a meniscus injury.
Get well soon Leo!
