Ultras from FC Schalke 04 physically attacked a man in Dublin. The club commented in the evening.
Ultras from Schalke 04 have come under fire in Ireland. A serious incident occurred during a fan march in Dublin. As video footage shows, fans marched in closed rows along a street towards Dalymount Park on Saturday. A photographer apparently wanted to take pictures and briefly stood in front of the fans.
Some of the ultras probably didn’t like that. In the footage you can see a man grabbing the camera and pushing the woman aside. Then a man is knocked over. The photographer, Carly Clarke, later reported on Platform X: “I went to photograph what I thought was a parade. They took my camera and knocked Steve over.”
One of the fans kicks the man’s head, then the video stops. “Then they kicked him in the head and when he couldn’t stand up anymore, they continued kicking him. They were hooligans from FC Schalke. I’m horrified and outraged!” the photographer continued.
The club expressed itself in the photographer’s comments that evening. “First of all, we would like to sincerely apologize to those affected and wish them a quick and full recovery. Violence in any form is completely unacceptable and is in complete contradiction to the values and principles of our club,” the club wrote. The incident is taken very seriously and the association will fully support the investigation.
In the friendly against Bohemian Football Club from Dublin, Schalke lost 3-2 after an Irish goal in the 90th minute. There were around 200 fans from Germany in the stadium
