FC Schalke 04 has extended the contract with veteran Dominick Drexler, which originally expired at the end of the season. As the Royal Blues announced on Tuesday evening, the 33-year-old is now tied to the club until at least 2025. “Dominick is characterized by game intelligence and creativity. He can use space cleverly and direct the game on the field,” explained sports director André Hechelmann about Drexler, who acquired his B+ coaching license alongside his professional career. “We are very pleased that he will continue to bring his qualities on and off the pitch to the club.”

Drexler added: “I’m looking forward to playing for this special club for another year. I can identify with all the values ​​that characterize this club and will continue to work hard to repay the trust placed in me.” The attacking midfielder moved to Gelsenkirchen from 1. FC Köln on a free transfer in 2021, since then he has played 63 games in which he was directly involved in 21 goals.

After Drexler’s extension, there are now ten Schalke professionals whose working paper ends in 2024.
