Homegrown among record players
Second division FC Schalke 04 has declared the goalkeeper dispute over. According to information from the club on Tuesday, there was now a conversation between coach Thomas Reis and Ralf Fährmann, who had lost his regular place at the start of the season. The irritations have been eliminated and the ferryman is now part of the squad again, a spokesman confirmed when asked.
Reis had removed the 34-year-old from the squad for the game in Wiesbaden (1-1) because his advisor Stefan Backs had previously publicly attacked the head coach for the goalkeeper exchange with Marius Müller (30). Fährmann had injured himself in the preparation and convinced his representative Müller. Therefore, the newcomer from Lucerne initially remained in the goal of the Bundesliga relegated team.
“It is unacceptable and incomprehensible that you are now making a change again – without also communicating it clearly with Ralf. This is how a Schalke legend is destroyed,” Backs let his anger about this measure run free in “Sport Bild” last week.
Sané to Embolo: The most expensive additions to Schalke 04
Statements that, in turn, were less well received by the advisor to Fährmann’s competitor Müller, Dirk Pietroschinsky. “The bottom line is that a consultant is trying to create unrest in the club through public pressure, in order to put his interests ahead of those of the club. A more than questionable course of action,” he told dpa when asked.
Schalke veteran ferryman: Only six German keepers were more valuable
The keeper, who has been trained with the Royal Blues since 2003 and has meanwhile moved to Eintracht Frankfurt and on loan to Norwich and Brann, is the only professional still active in the top 20 record players of the traditional club. With 15 Bundesliga seasons, he is by far the longest-serving Schalke player in the upper house, but Fährmann only played six games in the 2nd Bundesliga during his career. With a maximum market value of 13 million euros achieved in 2018, the 1.97 meter giant is one of the most valuable German goalkeepers in history – only six other goalkeepers in this country have ever had a higher market value.
