Top earners should be sold
Ozan Kabak (22) could, according to “picture“-Drag information from FC Schalke 04 to OGC Nice – in case the French increase their offer. This should be around 6 million euros. The “squires” are in a thankless negotiating position at Kabak, because Nice will also know that sports director Rouven Schröder has to get the top earner off the payroll – as of today, Schalke’s Bundesliga squad for 2022/23 has 34 players.

According to reports, Schalke is asking for a transfer fee of EUR 8 million plus performance-related bonuses. That’s €5m less than S04 would have gotten from Kabak’s loan club Norwich City if the English hadn’t been relegated. The Turkish national player’s salary should be between 3 and 4 million euros per season by 2024 and therefore no longer fits into the salary structure of the promoted team.
S04 fan “McCafe” writes in the rumor mill: “I can imagine an agreement there, but the 8 million euros plus bonuses should jump out. That would bring in fresh capital, which is needed to restructure the squad.”
Schalke bought Kabak from VfB Stuttgart for 15 million euros in 2019 and made him the fourth most expensive signing in the club’s history – since then, however, the Turkish player’s form and market value curve has also been down due to injury. The loans to Liverpool FC and Norwich brought in around 5 million euros in transfers, but more than 6 million euros are needed to avoid a loss on the bottom line.
Schalke’s loan player 2021/22 – total value: 32 million euros
Kabak is one of nine S04 professionals awarded in 2021/22. Other prominent loan players include Amine Harit (25, Marseille), Rabbi Matondo (21, Cercle Brugge) and Can Bozdogan (21, Besiktas).
