FC Schalke 04 announced the death of former CEO and member of the honorary committee Josef Schnusenberg on Friday. Schnusenberg died at the age of 83 after a serious illness.
Schnusenberg started at Schalke in 1994 in the role of treasurer, later moved to the board and chaired it from 2007. His tenure at the Revierklub included, among other things, the UEFA Cup victory in 1997, the cup successes after the turn of the millennium and the first participation in the Champions League. Schnusenberg also played a central role in the construction of the Veltins Arena, the second division team acknowledged.
