Negotiations with Anderlecht
Although FC Schalke 04’s form curve increased by seven points in the last three games before the winter break, the relegated team wants to strengthen its squad for the second half of the season. New additions are to come, especially for the defense – the third weakest in the league with 35 goals conceded. Various media are bringing two names from Belgium into conversation: Joël Schingtienne and Louis Patris.

Schingtienne is under contract with first division club Oud-Heverlee Leuven and, at 21, is still at a developing age. Meanwhile, more defensive tones come from Belgium, where, among other things, “Het Laatste Nieuws“classifies the transfer as unlikely. The reason for this is the fact that Patris only came from Leuven in the summer for 3.5 million euros and Anderlecht, above all, did not agree to the purchase option demanded by Schalke. So far, the U21 international has only made six league appearances over 269 minutes.
In both cases, coach Karel Geraerts is likely to have pushed forward the possible transfers. The 41-year-old had recently decided on a five-man chain, for which Patris would be an ideal fit with his offensive style of play.
What do we define as affordable? 1 million is certainly unrealistic, but 2-2.5 million could make sense for Anderlecht if they don’t plan on using him anymore. We have also given away players at a loss.
